Madonna Luisa Ciccone was born on August 16, 1958 in Bay City, Michigan to Catholic parents Madonna Louise (née Fortin) and Silvio Anthony “Tony” Ciccone. His father’s parents were Italian immigrants from Pacentro, and his mother was of French-Canadian descent. Tony Ciccone worked as an optical engineer at Chrysler and General Dynamics on military projects. Since Madonna’s mother had the same name, family members called her “Little Noni”. His mother died of breast cancer on December 1, 1963. The name was confirmed when he received confirmation in the Catholic Church in 1966.
