Alexei Navalny died in prison

Opposition leader Alexei Navalny died in prison. The Federal Penitentiary Service of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug reports this.

They indicated that he fell ill on a walk in Correctional Facility No. 3 on February 16. Navalny “almost immediately lost his mind.”

Medical workers were sent to him and an ambulance crew was also called. Doctors performed “all necessary resuscitation measures, which did not yield positive results.”

“Arriving doctors confirmed the death,” the FSIN department of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug said in a statement. The causes of death are determined.

The Federal Penitentiary Service reports that it has decided to send the commission to the colony. It will be forwarded to “territorial authority and institution”. It includes managers and employees of the “Operational and Medical Departments of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia”.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was informed of Navalny’s death, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said, Kommersant correspondent Andrei Kolesnikov reported on the Telegram channel. Peskov also said that the Federal Penitentiary Service is now “involved in all relevant checks, no instructions are needed, because there is a set of rules in this regard.”
