27 people died in an entertainment establishment in western India
The number of dead in the entertainment establishment in the west of India has reached 27 people, including four children.
According to the latest police data, twenty-seven people, including four children, died yesterday as a result of a fire in a family entertainment establishment in western India.
“We confirm the death of 27 people as a result of the fire”, police officer Radhika Barai told the press yesterday. The previous count was 24 dead. According to the same source, the four dead children were under 12 years old.
“The bodies were burned to such an extent that it is impossible to recognize them, which makes their identification difficult,” the officer said. In a statement from the local authorities, it is said that the police will continue to collect “DNA samples of the deceased” for their identification.
More than 300 people were in the hall of the two-story building of the TRP family entertainment establishment when the fire broke out, Iles Kher, a fire officer in Rajkot, Gujarat, told reporters.
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, who hails from the state, said in his message on social networks that he was “extremely upset”.
Speaking at the scene of the tragedy, Prabhav Joshi, a high-ranking official of the Rajkot municipality, told AFP today that the police had arrested two people. “The investigation continues”, – he said.
