Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoli

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoli, born February 2, 1977, known by her mononym Shakira, is a Colombian singer and songwriter.
Born and raised in Barranquilla, she has been called the “Queen of Latin Music” and is known for her musical versatility.
He made his recording debut with Sony Music Colombia at the age of 13. After the commercial failure of his first two albums, Magia (1991) and Peligro (1993), he gained popularity in Latin American countries with his next albums Pies Descalzos (1995) and Dónde Están los Ladrones? (1998). She entered the English-language market with her fifth album, Laundry Service (2001), which sold over 13 million copies worldwide. Fueled by the international success of her singles “Whenever, Wherever” and “Underneath Your Clothing”, the album cemented her reputation as a leading crossover artist. Broadcast Music, Inc. described Shakira as a “pioneer” who expanded the global reach of Latin American singers.

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoli was born on February 2, 1977 in Barranquilla, Colombia. He is the only child of William Mebarak Chadid and Nidia Ripol Torado. He is of Spanish and Lebanese descent.
His father, William, was born in New York to a Lebanon family. When he was five years old, his family moved to Colombia. On his mother’s side there are two Spanish surnames, Ripoll and Torado, the first of which is Catalan and comes from four brothers who emigrated from Catalonia to coastal Colombia in the 19th century. He also stated that he was raised Catholic and attended Catholic schools. He has eight older half-brothers from his father’s previous marriage. Shakira spent most of her youth in Barranquilla, a city located on Colombia’s northern Caribbean coast.
